Treasurer Emily Macdonald is an optometrist, and gained initial experience of development work during voluntary projects with respected UK charity Vision Aid Overseas (meeting husband Ken on a project in Ghana).
Her duties with Vision Action are many which she combines Vision Action duties with her responsibilities running a busy practice.
Secretary Tom Simpson is a Dispensing Optician, and Director of both Aberdeen and Stonehaven Specsavers Opticians. Tom was instrumental in setting up a social entrepreneurial business plan for an optometry department in Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Ghana, and is also experienced in outreach work.
Tom has a degree in psychology, and is a voluntary counsellor for ChildLine.
Chairman Ken Macdonald is an optometrist and Director of Oban Specsavers Opticians. He has completed 17 projects with Vision Aid Overseas (in Malawi, Ghana, The Gambia, Latvia, Zambia and Burkina Faso). Ken also served as Ghana Programme Director for Vision Aid Overseas.
He has considerable fundraising experience, and was a member of Vision Aid Overseas Project Implementation Team, before moving on to found Vision Action.
He has been an advisor to the World Bank research group, investigating simple methods of vision correction in developing countries.
Justice Helen Fon Achu
The patron of Vision Action in Cameroon is very respected senior legal magistrate Justice Helen Fon-Achu, who serves the Supreme Court of Appeal in Douala.
As a very active and committed Christian, Justice Helen has embraced Vision Action’s strategy of helping the visually impaired while providing useful employment.
